acrobat reader

PDF (Portable Document Format) Brochures are now common place on websites across the world. Why?

The PDF is very popular, the most common software for reading PDF's is Acrobat Reader, a free program from Adobe. The most obvious advantage is the free reader but there's more than that. The PDF product has been around for more than a decade and has a track record of stability and compatibility on both PC (Windows) and MAC computers.

Acrobat (PDF) documents have "the look and feel" of the paper document. Acrobat documents can be made "interactive" allowing users to fill in information requested on a form and print a professional looking completed document or save and email the completed document.

They provide an excellent way of distributing all sorts of documentation to clients, customers, members of clubs, interested parties etc. in an easily accessible format. PDF's are excellent for professionally designed brochures, flyers, forms etc and also simple text documents.

When available as part of a website's content, they can be viewed on screen while the website visitor is on the site or the PDF can be downloaded to the user's desktop for viewing later.

The Acrobat format has become the de facto standard for the internet. The reader is installed on a huge number of machines. Free software that works on both PC and MAC machines makes public access easy and allows an inexpensive method to distribute documentation including sales collateral, forms, marketing materials etc.

SWF

adobe flash player

SWF (Small Web Format) Brochures are not so common place as the PDF but give the viewer a fantastic online experience.

The format requires Flash Player which can be downloaded free however it is commonly found on systems.

The SWF files we create use the page curl feature which gives the illusion of pages actually being turned while viewing on screen. The user simply moves the mouse to the top or bottom right corners of the document and the page curls over. If it is then dragged with the mouse the page turns.

We would always advise our customers who have PDF documents made to duplicate them as SWF files also, giving site visitors the opportunity to experience the SWF version of a brochure. It makes a visit more memorable which has a myriad of benefits.

SWF Example

The examples below are created free of charge when a PDF of more than 4 pages is created.

Moving your mouse to the top or bottom right of the page will start the page to curl. Drag it open and see how the page turns.

As noted, the flash format gives an outstanding user experience which is both impressive and memorable.

PDF Brochure Example 2

This second example of PDF use is information sheets rather than a brochure.

The client sells commercial vehicles and on their vehicle listing page a site visitor can view vehicle information as both a web page and a pdf document.

PDF documents can then be downloaded for further review, or emailed to other decision makers if the client is a partenrship for example. The client can also email out individual information sheets to potential customers.

All design work, image enhancement etc is carried out by Ape Red and new sheets are included in the sitecare service.

PDF Brochure Example 1

This first example is a 14 page brochure based on the site design to be used as an examples book.

Customer enquiries coming from other sources can be guided to the website to view examples of past work carried out by the business.

The brochure can be emailed to prospective clients and of course those customer visiting the website as their first point of contact have a brochure to view or download containing examples of work carried out.
